THE IMPORTANCE OF SETTING UP YOUR SEAT PROPERLY

For those of you who have been keeping up with our newsletters over the years (both electronic and print version) you would noticed one of our recurring themes is setting up your seat for proper use. We feature this topic so heavily due to its importance in preventing injury.

Research shows that sprains and strains are heavily influenced by exposure to what is loosely termed ”rough rides”. These are prevalent in all forms of trucks both on and off highway. When exposed to this condition, the negative flow on effect are issues in the neck and back region (pain). This is where proper seat setup plays a major role.

Most of you know that your weight and height are critical factors at play when getting a seat ‘setup’ properly. If the seat is not specifically set up for your requirements, then it cannot possibly do the job of not only being comfortable, but fulfilling its role of preventing injury, through ‘control’ of this rough ride.

That is why you’ll see MMT staff out in the field showing you how to setup your seat properly. While it may seem like a fairly straightforward task, getting it right is so important.

Safe Work Australia in their publication, “ERGONOMICS FOR THE CONTROL OF SPRAINS AND STRAINS IN MINING” state:

There are three major anatomical/physiological factors which need to be considered in sitting posture:
  • the posture of the spine, in particular the configuration of and pressure within the spinal discs
  • the type and amount of muscle work required to maintain work postures (static and active) and individual fatigue levels
  • compression of the tissues (most particularly the blood vessels and nerves) at the back of the thigh and behind the knee.
With these details in mind, MMT have partnered with a physiotherapist to help our customers get an even more comfortable ride during the day and get home in the same good condition that they left their family in.

Early next year we’ll introduce you to our ‘Physio', and let you know how with a few simple tips, you can eliminate any back or neck pain you may be experiencing operating your trucks, bus or even your car at home.

SATELLIS AWNINGS

One of the new products that we are keen to show off next year is our range of Awnings by Satellis. This product complements our existing trimming business in addition to providing a wider service to the customers we already serve.

Let’s say you’re at a trade show or a sporting event or even an expo and you need to get your preparation completed quickly. Why spend time manually opening blinds and adjusting them into position? This Satellis system allows you to get your shade solution in place easily, at the push of a button, at exactly the right angle.

Now you might ask, what does this have to do with me. I am running a service department. What about having a mobile service vehicle with a canopy mounted to the roof? We’ve all seen service people having to assemble machines or carry out repairs in the full sun. What about using this solution as a temporary mobile type workcover.

For those with marketing duties, what about setting up a mobile branded promotional vehicle? As an additional idea, why not use this as part of your stand.

Or why not just affix one to the wall of your office ‘old school’ style and stop the sun flooding in. The options are limitless.

The Satellis shade solution that we carry will allow for quick and easy adjustment to the angle of the awning multiple times throughout the day as the sun moves. Our awnings are equipped to be operated by remote control and being trimmers, we can supply them in many colours and fabrics, just ask.

Have a look at this video to get a feel for how this could benefit your business. We look forward to talking to you about them in the New Year.
